this month’s selection

Hello ,

Step outside. Go on, we dare you. No, that’s right, you won’t, because your face will probably burn off. The summer, about as welcome as a Hummer in a Greenpeace picnic, is upon us and, unfortunately, all anyone can talk about at the moment is the heat and why the air conditioning in the car isn’t high enough. So, to cool you all down, we’ve got a somewhat watery theme running throughout this month’s Filini newsletter.

We’re giving you a stylish carafe, a rather funky and flexible multi-purpose washing up bowl and even a pool party in one of the UAE’s hippest hotels. You can thank us later, once it’s safe to go outdoors without melting.

pool party, prizes and presents!

Filini has teamed up with the über-cool Aloft Hotel in Abu Dhabi for a Full Moon Pool Party on Friday July 23.

Alongside the stunning Splash Pool and a soundtrack laid on by DJ Chad Phunk and DJ Natalie B, we’re throwing in a sack of prizes (including an awesome Fatboy Island Lounge Bag). And if that wasn’t enough (and it really is), we’re setting up the Fatboy ‘Tickle on the Terrace’ massage lounge, where guests can get a relaxing neck rub on some of our lovely Fatboy furniture. And – someone stop us – we’re going to be giving everyone at the party a 10 per cent off voucher that can be used at Filini. But there’s even more – we’ve got a night’s stay at the Aloft Hotel for one lucky Filini newsletter subscriber! Phew

the cool way to carry water

Normann-Copenhagen

One simple but effective way to beat the heat this summer is to have a bottle of water with which to pour over oneself every few minutes.

For a rather more stylish alternative, why not use this sculpted, glass ‘Cristal’ carafe from Dutch design maestro Marcel Wanders?

Coming complete with five colourful plastic cups that offer a dynamic contrast in shades and materials, the Cristal will keep you cool while helping you look cool in the process. Even if you are soaked in water.

washing dishes or chilling drinks, you decide

It may be called the Washing-Up Bowl, but we – along with a few other designery types – have decided that this flexible creation has a much more exciting use: as a drinks chiller!

Ole Jensen’s bendy Washing-Up Bowl changes shape depending on what you want to do with it, making it the coolest multi-purpose product we’ve seen.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York uses the bowls as wine coolers in its restaurant, while numerous hotels have them as footbaths. Should you adopt our preferred use, of course, you’ve got no excuse not to get scrubbing those glasses once the party’s over.
